3rd Annual Congressional Fishing Competition

THE 3rd ANNUAL CONGRESSIONAL FISHING COMPETITION
Monday, June 6th at the Eastport Yacht Club
The Congressional Fishing Competition provides a great opportunity to bring together like-minded pro-sportsmen to discuss the many and varied benefits the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation brings to our sporting community, while in an environment that is conducive to experiencing and learning about some of the scientific methods essential to achieving conservation goals while allowing for public access to our natural resources.
Specifically, marine fisheries management relies on rather complex models using data from both the population of fish sampled in the water (fishery-independent data) and the number of fish removed, or the rate of removals, from a population (fishery-dependent data). Often, these models rely heavily on fishery-dependent information. When it comes to recreational fisheries, it is important to have reliable estimates of the number of fish harvested by recreational anglers each year, or in some cases, each week.
With the technologies available on our smartphones, we have an opportunity to greatly increase our ability to estimate angler harvest more effectively through the use of electronic reporting by individual anglers. Section 201 of the Modern Fish Act of 2018 specifically calls on NOAA Fisheries to explore the use of electronic reporting by individual anglers to improve fisheries management.
Participants in the competition will be using the iAngler Tournament app, one of several examples of smartphone applications that can provide fisheries managers with valuable information, even beyond the number of fish harvested or released. You will have an opportunity to see how these apps work firsthand and how they can contribute to the future of sustainable fisheries management.

Failure to comply with any rule or regulation of the tournament, or law, rule or regulation of Maryland State Fishing Guide, may cause the disqualification of an angler or the anglers catch. Any registered angler so disqualified shall not be entitled to any prize, award, or entry refund.
Weather: All anglers will fish at their own discretion and at their own risk. Entry refunds for weather may be granted by the sole decision of the tournament committee
Indemnity: All anglers will fish at their own risk. All anglers agree to indemnity and hold harmless all members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, Coastal Conservation Association Maryland Tournament Committee, Directors, Sponsors, and their agents and employees from any and all liability, loss or damage they may suffer as a result of this fishing tournament.
Miscellaneous: The tournament committee reserves the right to refuse the registration of any angler.
