The Coastal Conservation Association Maryland (CCA MD) is proud to announce the 5th annual Red Trout Tournament in Crisfield, Maryland

From September 29th through October 1st 2017, fishermen from all over the region will come to Crisfield to enjoy fishing this two day tournament amongst Tangier Sound's many creeks, rivers, and islands.

The Red Trout Tournament started in 2013, to celebrate Crisfield, MD, and the diverse fishing opportunities available nearby.

Earlier this year, we were proud to work with our sister organization, CCA’s National Habitat Program, the Building Conservation Trust(BCT), the Maryland Artificial Reef Initiative, Rinker Materials, and Engel Coolers, to build a new and exciting artificial reef just south west of Crisfield. The new reef is made up of almost 400 tons of concrete pipe, and in due time, will be another great fishing spot in Tangier Sound.

The Red Trout Tournament is a catch, photo, release tournament that allows anglers to enter a three fish stringer each day, of any combination of Red Drum, Speckled Trout, Striped Bass, Bluefish, or Flounder.

The Crisfield American Legion is the home base, and will be the location for the Captains Meeting on 9/29, Tournament party on 9/30, and Lines Out/ Awards Presentation on 10/1.

Divisions, Calcuttas, and Rules

Divisions:

1. Power Boat:
The Power Boat division is included in the general entry cost and is judged by the team. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. The length of a 3 fish stringer determines the winners. The final stringer length will be the total combined length of the 3 biggest eligible species caught over the two days of fishing. The 3 fish stringer can be made up completely of any eligible species (Striped Bass, Red fish, Speckled Trout, Bluefish, and Flounder), or any combination of the eligible species.

Participants in the Powerboat division may fish anywhere in the Md/Va tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay, but must launch from the Crisfield area. These ramps include: Somers cove, Jenkins creek, Janes Island state park, or the Small boat harbor. Tournament officials reserve the right to change launch locations based on weather or other conditions.

Boats must declare the members of their team before lines in on Saturday.

2. Kayak:
The kayak division is included in the general entry cost and is judged on an individual basis. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. The longest 3 fish stringer determines the winner. Kayak anglers will only compete against other kayak anglers (with the exception of the Calcutta’s). The 3 fish stringer can be made up completely of any eligible species (Striped Bass, Red fish, Speckled Trout, Bluefish, and Flounder), or any combination of the eligible species.

Participants in the kayak division may also fish anywhere in the Md/Va tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. They are however able to travel and launch from anywhere within Md/Va.

3. Rising Tide Youth Division:
The youth division is included in the general entry cost and is judged on an individual basis. To enter the division, youth must be 17 or under and accompanied by a participating adult. The 3 fish stringer can be made up completely of any eligible species (Striped Bass, Red fish, Speckled Trout, Bluefish, and Flounder), or any combination of the eligible species.

Tournament Rules

1. Photo entry: This is a catch and release tournament, all fish must be photographed with a photo indicator and submitted before fishing time ends each day. *ALL PHOTOS MUST BE CLEAR AND READABLE*
2. The night before fishing, we will announce a photo indicator symbol to draw on your wrist band or hand. The daily indicator symbol must be visible in the photo for the fish to be eligible.
3. All fish must be measured with a 48” CCA measuring stick. Kayak anglers will be permitted to use their hog trough OR the CCA measuring stick. All participants must present ruler or measuring stick to judges if requested. If unable to, judges may disqualify any catch or participant. Rulers modifications must be approved by judges BEFORE the start of fishing on either day.
4. Photos will be entered through the ianglertournament smartphone application. Participants without a smart phone or provide pictures to judges during check in period. Participants must receive a catch card on each day to ensure that judges records reflect the correct picture and fish, and to certify the final measurement for the records of both the tournament and participants.
5. Tournament officials reserve the right to examine the metadata of any photo image to confirm the validity of a claim. Photos with edited or missing metadata may be disallowed at the official’s discretion.
6. The largest fish will be determined by length measured from the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail (You may pinch the tail). Put the measuring stick on the deck of your boat. Lay the fish on the measuring stick. Put the snout on the zero mark (the end of the stick). It helps to jam the measuring stick against a vertical surface to ensure that the zero mark, and the snout of the fish are even. Fish will be measured to the nearest 1/8th of an inch.
